Sam the Sandown Clown: Secret Badge Drop In

for children aged 8 and older

Thursday 19 Feb 11.45am

Rope Store

This is a fun, flexible badge-making session inspired by the weird and wonderful local story of Sam the Sandown Clown, also known as All Colours Sam!

Artist Teresa Grimaldi will guide you . You can drop in any time, stay as long as you like, and leave with a cool, secret badge that shows you are part of the mystery. This activity is a special crossover event, celebrating the exciting work done on the Sam the Clown story in Sandown at Boojum&Snark.

The Mission: Design Your Secret Badge

Sam the Clown was a tall, strange figure—part clown, part sci-fi apparition—seen in Sandown in 1973. He wore unusual clothes, lived in a metallic hut with dial-patterned wallpaper, and had a mysterious black microphone.

Your mission is to become a "Junior Detective" and design a badge using the strange colours, shapes, and objects connected to Sam's brief, bizarre visit.

About Teresa

We're delighted to welcome Teresa Grimaldi, an experienced Isle of Wight artist, puppet maker, and educator!

Teresa has a background in Theatre Design and Puppetry, which means she can help you bring your characters to life using unique textures and objects. Her passion is in seeing the story and potential in recycled and found materials—especially beautiful, pre-loved fabrics—making her the perfect guide for transforming a simple scrap into a magical, high-quality accessory, allowing the  story of the material to enrich the story of the character.

Only children taking part need a ticket, adults do not need a ticket.
