Shree Dance Academy
Indian Classical Dance Workshop
For children aged 6 years or older
Saturday 21 Feb 11.45
Michael West Gallery

In this session we will be exploring story telling through Indian classical dance. We will understand the use of hand gestures (mudras), facial expressions, body postures and foot work in storytelling. There will be an opportunity to ask questions and learn about this 4000-year-old intricate dance form and its application in modern performing arts.
We will create a short dance performance to contemporary music that you can take home. Kids and adults all welcome (even if you have never danced before!).
Join us for an interactive, fun and a creative session.

About Suma:
Dance transcends language barriers. My passion for dance is deeply rooted in my childhood. Growing up in a vast country like India with several languages and diverse cultures dance was a good way to connect and express emotions.
I have been lucky to have received training in two different classical dance forms from various gurus. It has helped me keep fit both physically and mentally.
I am the artistic director of Asian Cultural Club Isle of Wight. Dance has helped me bring people of different backgrounds together on the island. I am very keen to share some of the technicalities of Indian Classical dance in the workshop whilst keeping it fun and creative.
