Nature: for children 4 years or older: Captivating Kelp Forests: workshop

Michael West Gallery

What is kelp? What creatures make kelp forests their home? Why do we need to protect
these underwater forests? This storytelling session marks the official launch of Captivating Kelp Forests, a book that answers these questions and celebrates an incredible habitat. The team behind the book will share underwater science, behind- the-scenes tales and of course
the story itself.

Emma and Rhiannon are the author-illustrator team behind ‘Milk and Cookies’, ‘Secret
Seagrass Meadows’ and their new collaboration with Natural England ‘Captivating Kelp
Forests’. Both live by the sea with their young families and senior dogs, Emma by southeast
Kent’s dramatic white cliffs and Rhiannon on the beautiful Gower peninsular. Emma writes heartfelt stories inspired by marine ecology and breastfeeding. Rhiannon paints dramatic abstract pieces inspired by the landscape, and creates vibrant watercolour illustrations. Natural England ‘s role is to protect and restore our natural world. Together they like to work on beautiful children’s books with a scientific slant.
